Rep. Lewis Qualifies for Re-Election
Atlanta - Today, at the Georgia State Capitol, Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) qualified to seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia's 5th Congressional District.
"I am more than pleased to qualify to seek the Democratic nomination for re-election as the U.S. Representative of Georgia's 5th Congressional District. The people of the 5th district have been very supportive and have been very good to me. When I first ran a few years ago, I said then and I say again today, no one will ever outwork me during the campaign or doing my job in Congress. I will try to touch every area of this district. I will not take any area or individual voter for granted.
Widely recognized as an icon of the Civil Rights Movement and one the most influential progressive voices in Washington, Rep. Lewis is working to address the basic human needs of all the citizens of his district.
Of the work ahead in Congress, Rep. Lewis said, "We have a lot of problems in America. There is a lot of work to be done. We must end the war in Iraq and find a way to bring our young men and women home. We must get our economy in order. The price at the pump is too high. Many individuals and families are losing their homes. We must continue to fight to have clean air and a continued supply of fresh water. It is not a struggle that lasts a year or a single term, but an ongoing struggle to fulfill the needs of the people of the 5th District."
