Georgia AFL-CIO Endorses
Atlanta -- Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) received the endorsement of the Georgia AFL-CIO for the July 15 Democratic Primary election.
Richard Ray, president of the Georgia AFL-CIO, called Rep. Lewis a "friend of working people everywhere."
"He is a long time friend of the labor movement and his record of service is without question," Ray said. "For Atlanta, for Georgia, for Labor, for everyone who believes an honest days work should receive an honest days pay-John Lewis is our guy."
"I am pleased to have the endorsement and support of organized labor and the hard working people of this district," Rep. Lewis said. "They have always been good to me and I have tried to be good to them. They have always supported me and I never forget my friends. I am grateful to have their help and their support as I continue to seek to serve the people of this district."
Rep. Lewis currently serves as Chairman of the Ways & Means Oversight Subcommittee which conducts oversight of all programs within the jurisdiction of the full Ways and Means Committee. Rep. Lewis has recently conducted oversight hearings on the activities of the Internal Revenue Service, the Treasury Department, charitable organizations who are given special tax exemption under the Internal Revenue Code, the administration of the Medicare program and the Social Security Administration's disability adjudication backlog. Rep. Lewis is also Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Labor taskforce.
